Supplied products, loans and commercial influence

Products supplied free of charge, retained as review samples, loaned for testing or provided at a discount do not purchase favourable coverage. We disclose relevant incentives clearly and do not allow an affiliate rate, advertising spend, sponsorship or PR relationship to determine an editorial conclusion.

Where a manufacturer or commercial partner has paid for content or exercises editorial control over what must be said, that content is treated separately from independent editorial coverage and labelled accordingly. Independent review conclusions are not submitted for brand approval. A company may be asked to confirm a factual specification or technical point, but it does not control the verdict.

Reasonable written embargoes may be honoured when agreed in advance. An embargo governs timing, not the substance of an article.

Our independent research and editorial voice

Every article should be written specifically for The Tools and Tech and help a reader make a decision. We use multiple appropriate sources where possible, prioritise primary technical documentation for specifications, and bring in independent reporting or consumer guidance to challenge marketing claims. The final explanation, comparisons, trade-offs and recommendations are our own editorial work.

Our writing may describe research actions we actually performed — for example, comparing official support pages, examining compatibility lists or checking published UK purchase conditions. We do not invent conversations with manufacturers, product demonstrations, personal experience, tests or ownership. If we have not handled a product, we say so when that distinction matters.

We identify source types and avoid unsupported superlatives, copied rankings, artificial performance scores and unverified claims about live prices, stock or affiliate tracking.
