Safety alert — 28 September 2026. The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards has expanded a Zebra printer power-supply recall because affected units can overheat and present a high risk of fire.
What is affected?
The recall expansion applies to certain Zebra power supply units manufactured from 1 October 2006 through 31 December 2012. The UK notice lists desktop printer ranges that may contain an affected PSU, including APxxx, GC4xxx, GK4xxx, GK888xx, GX4xxx, GT8xx, HC100, H/LP/TLP/Rxxxx, PS4000, T2xxx, Thermal 284x, ZP4xx and ZP5xx. The official report specifically identifies GK420d among the affected model information.
The printer model alone does not prove the power supply is affected. Businesses should identify the actual PSU and follow Zebra’s official recall-identification process.
What businesses should do
- Check Zebra printers and associated power supplies that may date from the affected manufacturing period.
- Use Zebra’s official PSU-identification instructions rather than relying only on the printer model.
- If a PSU is identified as affected, follow the manufacturer’s recall and replacement process.
- Do not substitute an unverified third-party power supply merely because the connector fits.
- For managed fleets, record which printer is paired with which PSU so the check can be audited.
Why this matters
The UK product recall classifies the risk as High and states that fire can occur at the power lead where it enters the appliance. The corrective action is a recall of affected power supplies from end users.
Commercial policy
This is a safety notice, not a buying guide. The Tools and Tech will not use the recall to promote an unverified replacement PSU. Any replacement recommendation must be confirmed against Zebra’s official compatibility and recall guidance.
