Choose a sensor by the data you need
Some fitness sensors help guide exertion during a workout; others are meant for passive recovery and sleep estimates. Our shortlist is deliberately mixed so readers can avoid buying another wearable with features they already get from their watch.
| Exact model | UK reference | Purpose | Manufacturer product |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speediance Strap — Standard / Pro | Standard £149; Pro costs more | Screenless activity, estimated sleep/recovery, heart rate/HRV | Speediance Strap UK |
| Wahoo TRACKR HEART RATE | Check latest UK price | Live chest-strap heart-rate data | Wahoo TRACKR |
| Echelon Beat Advanced Armband | £119.99 | Colour-indicated workout heart-rate zones and app connection | Echelon Beat UK |
Speediance Strap: variants and restrictions matter
Speediance markets its Strap with all-day heart-rate and HRV tracking, sleep stages, estimated core temperature, recovery cues and activity detection, without a mandatory subscription for its core measures. When checked on its UK storefront, the Standard was sold out and the Pro was the variant stated to be orderable at a higher price. Do not use the £149 Standard price for Pro or claim immediate stock until the selected SKU is checked. Optional Wellness+ features are separate from the basic tracker.
Wahoo TRACKR: workout metrics
The Wahoo TRACKR chest strap is designed for live exercise heart rate, syncing with compatible training equipment and applications. Wahoo advertises HRV access through supported apps, IPX7 water resistance and pairing-status indicators. These should be independently checked against your phone or cycling application; not every service records or reports the same HRV metrics. It is not a medical device or a guarantee that every reading is error-free.
Echelon Beat: arm sensor for live class training
Echelon Beat is an armband that displays the workout’s effort zone using different LED colours and connects to Echelon’s app over Bluetooth. The manufacturer lists £119.99. Check the band’s fit, charging and the exact Android/iOS compatibility before purchase. A heart-rate-zone light can help training consistency but does not establish individual clinical exercise thresholds.
Subscriptions, privacy and good buying choices
Check what information is stored in the cloud, exported, shared between family accounts or deleted, and whether any advanced features stop after a subscription expires. A chest strap, an arm band and a screenless all-day tracker address different needs; choose the lightest system that genuinely adds useful information. For watches and rings, see our fitness tracker coverage and smart ring category. None of these devices has been hands-on tested by this publication.
Before buying
Always verify exact model and generation, UK warranty, regional availability, stock, delivery fees, setup requirements, subscription renewal terms and the final price directly with the supplier. Optional accessories can substantially change the cost. Product image rights will be recorded before photographs are added.
