Build Your Home Office

Plan a complete home-working setup around your computer, displays, ergonomics, calls, connectivity and backup.

Before ordering: check exact-model compatibility, dimensions, ports, power, seller and warranty. This planner organises a setup; it does not validate model compatibility or replace manufacturer checks.

1. Set your budget and priority

Starting point: enter a budget and priority. We will suggest a budget split across the whole setup; you still choose exact products.

Purchase plan: add buying links to selected products. Links are grouped by website. Manufacturer pages, retailer pages and tracked affiliate links remain different destinations.
Checkout note: one true card transaction across unrelated retailers requires those sellers to participate in a marketplace checkout. Ordinary affiliate links can be grouped and optimised, but they cannot be silently merged into one payment.

Choose the monitor and dock together

These exact-model examples explain the decisions behind a home-office setup. Manufacturer specifications, support guidance and UK buying destinations were checked on 9 October 2026. They are research examples, not hands-on verdicts or automatic compatibility approvals from the builder.

Dell UltraSharp U2724D — QHD at 120 Hz

Consider this 27-inch monitor for a smooth QHD workspace using HDMI or DisplayPort for the picture. Its USB-C upstream connection is data only; it is not a single-cable USB-C laptop display and charging solution. The accessible USB-C downstream port supplies up to 15 W for accessories. Do not confuse U2724D with the different U2724DE Thunderbolt hub model.

Dell Pro 27 Plus P2725QE — 4K USB-C hub

Consider this 27-inch 3840 × 2160, 100 Hz monitor when finer text and a simpler laptop connection matter. Dell lists USB-C video, data, Ethernet and up to 90 W power delivery. Check that the laptop’s chosen port supports video and accepts USB-C charging, and that its power requirement fits the monitor’s output. The maximum refresh rate still depends on the complete laptop, cable and display connection.

CalDigit TS4 — Thunderbolt 4 dock

Consider the TS4 when the laptop needs more ports, storage connections and a wired network alongside its display. CalDigit lists 18 ports and up to 98 W host charging. Connect a monitor through DisplayPort or a downstream Thunderbolt port; the ordinary USB-C data ports are not display outputs. Display count and resolution depend on the exact host computer and operating system, so a two-screen dock claim alone does not approve a two-screen laptop setup.

What these choices mean for your build

For one USB-C laptop display, the P2725QE may supply the display, charging and hub functions you need without buying a separate dock. For a U2724D, plan a separate video connection plus the appropriate charging arrangement. Add a TS4 only when its extra connectivity addresses a real need; verify the exact host’s display support and every cable or adapter first. Record those checks and actual quoted prices in your setup.
