Omnidirectional VR treadmills and movement platforms let you walk or run in place while supported games convert that movement into virtual locomotion. They differ from wearable full-body trackers, which chiefly move an avatar’s limbs. These systems are substantial equipment purchases: check fit, floor space, headset, games, delivery and returns before ordering. This is research-led coverage, not a hands-on test.
Consumer VR locomotion systems compared
| System | Headset and software route | Fit and space checks | UK buying route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Virtuix Omni One for Quest | Supported Quest 2/3 family games through Omni Connect; PC SteamVR connection is also offered. The Quest headset is separate. | Virtuix lists a 4 ft 4 in–6 ft 4 in user-height range, 250 lb maximum weight and a clear 6 ft × 6 ft area. Its vest, support arm and overshoes are part of the movement system. | Check Omni One for Quest at Virtuix; Virtuix lists UK availability. Verify shipping, tax and the exact game list at checkout. |
| Virtuix Omni One Core | PC VR version for a SteamVR-compatible headset and a suitable Windows PC; it does not bundle the headset. Check the particular game and connection path. | The same published 6 ft 4 in height and 250 lb weight ceilings apply. Confirm PC requirements and cable management as well as clear floor area. | Check Omni One Core at Virtuix; Virtuix lists UK availability. |
| KAT Walk C2 Core Enhanced | PC VR through KAT software; Quest use may require the separate KAT Nexus adapter. Dedicated footwear and sensors are part of the system. | KAT lists 5 ft 3 in–6 ft 5 in recommended height, 5 ft 1 in–6 ft 7 in supported height, and 130 kg maximum weight. Platform is 230 mm high; check ceiling and swing clearance. | Check C2 Core at KAT VR; confirm UK variant, shoe size, accessories and delivery. |
| KAT Walk C2 Plus Enhanced | Similar headset routes, with haptic platform and sitting/vehicle features. Confirm which variant and Quest adapter are in the basket. | KAT lists the same 5 ft 1 in–6 ft 7 in supported height and 130 kg maximum weight. The extra features add setup considerations. | Check C2 Plus at KAT VR; KAT lists UK warehouse delivery for the product. |
Compact walk-in-place alternative
KAT Loco S 2025 uses three wearable sensors to control movement while you walk in place. It is an accessible comparison for buyers without room for a platform, but it is not an omnidirectional treadmill and provides no harness. Confirm headset, game and optional Quest adapter support. Check the exact kit at KAT VR.
Professional alternative
Infinadeck uses a powered omnidirectional belt and positions its current systems for professional training and industrial work. It has a much larger published 2 m × 2 m deck footprint and a procurement route. It is useful technology context, but is not presented here as an ordinary UK home-gaming purchase.
What to check before buying
- Fit: compare your measured height, weight, waist and shoe size with the exact model’s limits. The difference between a “recommended” and “supported” height matters. A harness should be adjusted according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Room: allow the manufacturer’s free area around the platform, door access, ceiling clearance above the raised deck, and room for support arms, crouching and other people.
- Games: a general compatibility claim does not mean every title accepts walking input equally. Check the manufacturer’s current supported-game list and whether Quest play is standalone, through an adapter, or via PC VR.
- Total cost: include headset, capable PC if needed, adapter, special shoes and sizes, shipping, VAT, warranty and return logistics for heavy equipment. Manufacturer prices and promotions change, so use live checkout figures.
- Experience: sliding on a passive dish and walking on a powered belt feel different. Find a demonstration if possible, and follow the setup and safety instructions.
